Nintendo returns with new McDonalds Happy Meal tie-in

Mario will once again be gracing the boxes of McDonalds Happy Meals in the UK.

NintendoLife has caught wind of a new promotion for the plumber which will roll out in the UK on January 11th and run until February 7th.

It seems as if Yoshi will be the star this time around. The Happy Meal boxes will feature a balloon, two activity sheets, some sort of a origami Yoshi activity, a hidden Yoshi to find on the box and a discount eBook voucher.

This is the third time we’ve seen Nintendo and McDonalds team up in the UK. The first was in 2014, although 2015’s campaign is perhaps not remembered for the reasons Nintendo may have hoped.

The fast food chain has previously told MCV that its tie-in with Nintendo was designed to promote healthy lifestyles, despite questions being asked of whether video games and fast food are suitable marketing bedfellows.

The Run, Jump and Power-Up with Super Mario promotion inspired children to get active using some of Mario’s moves,” a McDonalds spokesperson said in 2014.

We teamed up with Nintendo UK to encourage children to get active with a Happy Meal promotion featuring some of its most famous characters. Kids were encouraged to run, jump and complete active tasks set out by Mario and friends both on the Happy Meal box itself and with free in-store activities.”
