Nintendo UK boosts PR and marketing teams following senior departures

Nintendo has made two major hires to its UK team, following the departures of senior marketing and PR executives last year.

Matthias Hempfling has joined as marketing and PR director, and Kalpesh Tailorhas come on-board as head of communications. Both join from Nintendo’s European head office in Frankfurt.

In 2015, Nintendo’s marketing director Shelly Pearce, head of consumer marketing James Honeywell, head of PR Jo Bartlett, brand manager Roger Langford, product manager Vanish Kavia, social media and community manager Jonathan Town and Junior PR manager Emily Wooliscroft left the company.

Other staff to have moved on includes head of operations Parham Shibaie and finance director Tom Pearce.

The firm has since recruited a number of key people into new roles throughout the UK arm as it gears up to launch Miitomo on smartphones, plus the arrival of Nintendo’s next console, NX.

Hempfling worked as senior European marketing manager at Nintendo Europe, and will now oversee all of UK marketing campaigns. He will report directly to Nintendo UK general manager Simon Kemp.

Tailor will reporting into Hempfling. He was previously senior European PR manager at Nintendo of Europe. He will now oversee all PR, social media and community activities for the UK, and his team includes assistant PR manager Emma Bunce, social media and digital content manager Ashley Day and UK community manager James Bowden.

”With 2016 off to a dynamic start, we are delighted to have Matthias and Kalpesh join the UK team,” says UK boss Simon Kemp.

Each brings not only an array of marketing and communications experience and Nintendo knowledge, but offer a fresh perspective on the UK market.

Hempfling added: ”I’m looking forward to embracing the intricacies of the UK market and to be part of what I know to be a talented team.”

And Tailor added, ”It is an incredibly exciting time to be with Nintendo UK, and having started my career based in the UK headquarters, I am very pleased to be returning. With so many great products and services on the horizon from Nintendo, I look forward to working with the team to deliver the magic that Nintendo is known for.”
