Nintendo’s 5 years of US success

Gaming stalwart Nintendo is this morning rightly singing loudly about its transformation in this generation of machines, heralding its unprecedented success in the US market.

The DS and Wii have been confirmed as the best selling consoles of 2010 in the US with sales of 8.5m and 7m respectively.

These numbers, though, were somewhat down on the 11.2m and 9.6m sold in 2009.

Lifetime DS sales in the US now stand at 47m with Wii sales reaching 34m.

Nintendo has sold more game systems than anyone else for five years running," Nintendo of America’s senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta stated.

"Of the quarter billion hardware systems sold in the United States during the past 10 years, Nintendo sold more than half. We look forward to bringing fun new experiences to consumers when Nintendo 3DS launches in March.”
