It seems that any hope of a quick fix to patch Dirt 3’s online problems on PS3 has been ruled out.
It was reported yesterday that owners of the PS3 version of the game are currently unable to access any of the game’s online modes as the ongoing PlayStation Store outage means they are unable to download the code needed to access the functionality.
Similar problems were enchanted with the PS3 iteration of Mortal Kombat, though that was resolved when publisher Warner disabled the need to download an unlock, making online gaming available to all.
However, due to the way Dirt 3 was designed makes such a workaround too complicated.
"We’ve looked into doing something similar for Dirt 3 but it’s technically not possible, as it’s hard-coded into the game," a spokesperson told CVG.
"Changing this would require considerable development time and a patch which would need to go through Sony’s submission process. This in itself would be a longer process than waiting for Sony to bring the PSN Store back online."
If Sony stays true to its word, the PlayStation Store should be back by Wednesday of next week.
