NPD: Nintendo shatters records in 2008

Nintendo was the main beneficiary of a

record-breaking year for the video games market in North America

last year, with Wii breaking the record for the number of unit sales enjoyed by a single platform in one year – 10.17m units.

In addition to this, DS shattered the territory’s monthly sales record after selling over three million units in December.

Concepts like Wii Fit, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band never would have seemed feasible just a few years ago, and now they’re driving growth for our the entire industry.”
