Optimism around PS Vita is growing, says Sony

Momentum behind PlayStation Vita is finally building, says Sony.

The UK team has seen sales of Vita increase 100 per cent during the summer, partly thanks to the launch of its Mega Pack – which is a collection of ten Vita games, bundled onto an 8GB memory card, for 35.

UK boss Fergal Gara told MCV that the firm will not forget Vita in the ramp up to the PS4 launch. The console’s price was cut at Gamescom, and new games were shown, including BigFest, Murasaki Baby and Borderlands 2. Sony says there will be 900 Vita games by the end of 2013.

Vita had a good summer, the Mega Pack is one of the things that has boosted performance by more than 100 per cent,” said Gara. It’s now in growth year-on-year. And you’ve seen several pieces of news at Gamescom which will only help. So that means we can feel optimistic.

The process of trying to drive costs down on Vita has happened just as it’s lining up to be a fantastic companion to PS4. Our optimism around Vita is growing.”

Sony believes the Remote Play functionality – which lets players stream games from their PS4 console onto Vita – can be a killer app for the portable this Christmas.

The ability to play all 32 PS4 launch titles using Remote Play does a lot for the Vita catalogue,” said SCEE boss Jim Ryan.
