Pandemic working on LOTR title?

A recent analyst report from EA has let slip that

recently-acquired

development studio Pandemic is working on a Lord of the Rings title, according to

Kotaku

.

Pandemic rose to fame following its sterling work on war zone sandbox title Mercenaries and multiplayer shooter Star Wars: Battlefront.

Nothing is known of the title, though Pandemic’s pedigree could point to some sort of free-roaming war title. At the same time, it’s possible that the studio is hoping to spread its wings into a new genre.

It is noteworthy, though that EA’s licence is with New Line Cinema covers not only rights to the films, but also to Tolkien’s novels. A film based on The Hobbit due out in the near future, so it could be that Pandemic are handling the licensed game outing. However, with Tolkien’s complete works available, EA’s plans could be more wide-reaching.

Lord of the Rings fans are still feeling the disappointment of EA’s decision to cancel it’s Elder Scrolls Oblivion wannabe Lord of the Rings: The White Council.
