ESL to launch first 24/7 eSports TV channel

ESL has announced a new 24/7 eSports TV channel that is due to launch in May.

Known as esportsTV, the channel will feature ESL’s core competitions and tournaments including ESL One, the Intel Extreme Masters and the ESL Pro League. The channel will run 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will be available on MTG’s Viasat platforms in the Nordic and Baltic countries, although expansions into further regions and distributors is possible in the future. MTG is the company that purchased ESL last year, so the channel debuting on its systems is no surprise.

ESL hopes that the channel will significantly grow their current digital audience of over 100 million viewers, and hopefully tap into over 2 billion gamers and 250 million eSports fans.

We have always dreamt of making esports the world’s most popular sport, and it’s the opportunities like this one that bring us one step closer to making that dream come true” said ESL’s Managing Director, Ralf Reichert. Bringing new and existing content to more screens worldwide is key to further accelerating the growth and popularity of esports, and we’re on a mission to reach every gamer in the world.”

esportsTV will run alongside ESL’s existing broadcast partnerships with Twitch, Azubu, Hitbox and Yahoo.
