Jonatan Soderstrom asks for torrent to be updated after bug fixes are made to the original release

Hotline Miami creator lends support to game pirates

The creator of new PC shooter Hotline Miami has offered technical support to Pirate Bay users who have illegally downloaded his game.

As spotted by PC Gamer, swedish developer Jonatan Söderström took to a thread on the torrent site and told users that he and his co-developer Dennis Wedin were currently at work on fixing a number of the game’s initial bugs.

He then went on to answer specific queries related to in-game errors, and also asked if users could update the illegal torrent once the game’s patch was out to make sure anyone who downloaded it had an up-to-date game.

“Hey there! I’m Jonatan Söderström, me and my friend Dennis Wedin made this game,” he said.

“We’re working on an update that hopefully will take care of any/all bugs, and we’ll try to do some extra polish in the next few days. Would be great if you could update the torrent when the patch is out! It’d be great if people get to play it without any bugs popping up.”

Söderström later took to his Twitter page to clarify that he obviously did not want people to download Hotline Miami for free, as he had been struggling for money in the months prior to its release.

He then commented however that he wanted people to experience the game as he intended, regardless of how they acquired the shooter.

“I don’t really want people to pirate Hotline Miami, but I understand if they do,” he said. “I’ve been broke the last couple of months. It sucks.

“And I definitely want people to experience the game the way it’s meant to be experienced. No matter how they got a hold of it.”

Released on October 23rd, Hotline Miami has accrued an average Metacritic score of 86, and is currently ranked 16th in the top sellers list on Steam.
