Minecraft awarded top honour at GameCity

Smash PC hit Minecraft has won the inaugural GameCity Prize, awarded on Saturday at GameCity6 in Nottingham.

It’s the first time the event has awarded a GameCity prize. The judges panel included MP Tom Watson, comedian Charlie Higson and South Bank Centre artistic director Jude Kelly.

The other games in contention for the award were ilomilo, Pokemon Black, Child of Eden, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Limbo and Portal 2.

We’re very excited to have won the first GameCity Prize, especially since the nominees contain some of our favourite games recently,” the game’s creator Markus Persson stated.

It’s a great honour to be compared to those games. Winning this award helps motivate us to try to make Minecraft the best game it can be.”
