Oculus is aiming to launch the consumer version of its virtual reality tech the Rift during 2015, the firm’s CEO has said.
Speaking to ArsTechnica, Brendan Iribe said he was hoping for sales "north of a million units" during the lifespan of the first release.
“It’s not going to be a console-scale market," he said.
"It always could be, but that’s not the goal. The goal is to set expectations low, get the enthusiasts and early adopters to get into the space, get their feedback, get developers making really great content."
He went on to say that Facebook’s acquisition of the start-up meant that Oculus could make its Rift headset cheaper for consumers.
Iribe said Oculus that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was keen to drive the cost down, and a high margin would no longer be required on each sale.
“Mark is much more in the mindset of ‘let’s get this to scale with the best quality product at the lowest cost possible.," he said.
