More than $1.5 billion was spent on Facebook games during the first half of this year, according to the social networking giant’s latest financial report.
The firm said over 260 million people were now playing games on the site every month.
During the last quarter, Facebook generated $2 billion in revenue for the first time in a three month period.
Revenue from games also rose 18 per cent from last year, and total ‘payments and other fees’ revenues – which games are listed under – grew to $218 million.
Last year, more than 100 developers on Facebook garnered more than $1 million in revenue from the social network.
Increased earnings come as Facebook been expanding its operations in the mobile space. Earlier this year the company revealed it had more than 800 million monthly users on the platform.
The social networking firm also announced in July it had launched a new mobile game publishing pilot program to help small and medium-sized developers promote their games to its large userbase.
