Rocket League boosts to 33 million players

Happy second birthday Rocket League. To celebrate this milestone, developer Psyonix has released an infographic on their website. It has some rather impressive figures:

33 million people have played Rocket League. If you want some context, that’s 3 million people shy of the entire population of Canada and nearly 10 million more than the population of Australia.

Over the last twelve months there has been a daily average of 1.6 million players, 3.3 million weekly and 6.1 million monthly. A grand total of 1.6 billion matches have been played and nearly 7 billion goals scored.

The game launched for free on PlayStation as part of PlayStation Plus in July 2015, and simultaneously on PC. So it might not a surprise that the biggest userbase is still on the PS4 with 41% of the games active users coming from that platform over the last 12 months.

"Wow! Wow! Wow! (Chat disabled for 4 seconds.)," said Psyonix on their website.

"It’s hard to believe that time has flown by as fast as it has, but sure enough,Rocket Leagueis now officially two years old. What’s truly amazing, though, is that the game that you – our community – made such a big success in our first year has become an even bigger one in our second. We have more players, more matches, more modes, and more excitement surroundingRocket League now than at any other point in our history; and in our minds, the best is yet to come, with plenty of great things planned for the year ahead."

The game is coming to Nintendo Switch this year, as well as a free to play version for the Chinese market, and cross play between all consoles except the PS4. It’s been a busy year for the game, which is also becoming a big hit on the esports scene. You can read this piece from our sister site Esports Pro about why the game could be the best for esports this generation.
