Star Citizen client likely to reach 100 GB

Cloud Imperium Games expects Star Citizen’s game client will likely weigh in at 100 GB, adding that individual patches will likely range between 2-20 GB.

According to the developer, the large downloads are due to the size and number of assets being implemented into the space trading and combat sim.

The size and number of assets that are left to deliver means that our client size is much more likely to be 100 GB," wrote Masker. "We are optimising game patching for speed and to only deliver diffs, but this is unlikely to reduce actual patch size,” director of game operations Jeremy Masker said.

Each patch has 100s of assets, each of these assets are at times 200mb, this leads to 2-6 GB patches, and if we end up doing a file type re-factor and have to re-download 30-40 per cent of the assets on the hard-drive, then the patch will be 14-20 GB."

Along with being one of the biggest games around, the game that can also boast itself as the undisputed crowdfunding champion of the world. It’s currently in development for launch in 2016 on Windows PC and Linux, and creator Chris Roberts has commented that there’s potential for the game on PS4 and Xbox One.
