PEA confirms its CS:GO league is dead

PEA has confirmed, as everyone suspected, that its CS:GO league is officially canceled.

The news comes as no surprise, as all PEA teams voted to play in the ESL Pro League instead of PEA’s offering. The vote comes after weeks of drama surrounding the issue.

"Since the time of the original announcement of the PEA CS:GO league, it has become clear to the PEA organizations that there isn’t sufficient financial support in the ecosystem," said the PEA in a statement to theScore eSports. "Either from broadcast/streaming partners, sponsors or others, to profitably operate a third prominent online league, due to the oversaturation of the marketplace and the recent upward spiral in operating costs."

With both the ESL Pro League, and ECS running online competitions in both EU and NA there was not enough time in the year for PEA to run a competition that did not overlap with these two. This meant if a team wanted to play in the PEA league they could not play in ESL’s. The situation was not helped when it emerged that PEA was banning its teams from playing in the ESL Pro League and that team owners were using contractual clauses to enforce this.

With this news it seems like the whole PEA drama is finally done, although it is currently unknown if PEA will continue to function in any way.
