PewDiePie rules YouTube once again with 4.1bn views in 2014

UK-based Swede Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjelberg was the single most watched person on YouTube in 2014.

The Guardian reports that his videos were watched 4.1bn times over the year, a period at the end of which he boasted 33.5m subscribers. This time last year he had 20.9m.

There may be signs that the main bro himself faces a challenge, however – second placed kid’s channel DC Toys Collector was the most popular channel in the last three months of the year and finished 2015 with 3.3bn views.

Musician Katy Perry was third (2.4bn). Other high fliers included Minecraft channels Stampy (2.2bn), The Diamond Minecart (1.6bn) and Shakira (just under 2bn).

YouTube’s Top 100 channels attracted 13.2bn views in December 2014, up 91 per cent year-on-year.

It was reported earlier this year that Minecraft was the second most searched term on YouTube in 2014 behind ‘music’. It beat the terms such as ‘Frozen’, ‘Beyonce’ and even the mighty ‘PewDiePie’ in the process.

It was reported last summer that Kjelberg currently makes over $4m per year.
