PlayStation launches in Philippines

The PlayStation 3 has officially arrived in the Philippines in a move that highlights Sony’s growing aspirations in the fractured Asian market.

VentureBeat reports that the 120GB version of the console will cost 18,999 PESOS (280) with the 360GB SKU costing 20,999 PESOS (310). The PSP, meanwhile, will retail for 9,999 PESOS (150).

The Philippines boasts a population of just under 92m, making it an understandable target for Sony – though the average annual wage of around 2,600 means that the PS3 will only be affordable to the most affluent of the populace.

The move follows the official launch of PlayStation in Vietnam earlier this year. The Philippines becomes the ninth Asian country to now officially stock PlayStation products.
