Pokémon Sun and Moon hit 2.3m units in Japan

The latest entries in the Pokmon franchise, Sun and Moon are once again the best-selling games in Japan, according to data from Famitsu.

The duo sold 442,346 copies in their second week on shelves, a drop of 78 per cent week-on-week. Combined with its launch sales of 1.9m, that brings total sales up to2,327,453 in Japan life to date.

Combined with the European Week One sell through of 1.5m, launch sales of 1.9m in Japan and the reported 3.7m units sold in Sun and Moon’s first two weeks in America, total sales of the latest releases in the franchise stand at well over 7.5m worldwide. Nintendo has said it shipped 10m units worldwide.

Sun and Moon were the only games in the Japanese Top Ten that weren’t new releases. Bandai Namco’s SD Gundam G Generation Genesis charted in second and third place for the Vita and PS4 SKUs respectively. The publisher had another title debuting at No.8 in AiKatsu Stars! My Special Appeal for the 3DS, selling 10,295 units.

Koei Tecmo had a strong showing this week too, with three versions of Samurai Warriors: Sanada Maru debuting at No.4, No.6 and No.9. This was for the PS4, Vita and PS3 editions respectively, which sold 52, 360 units between them.

Over in hardware charts, New 3DS LL is once again No.1, selling 40,597 copies, while PS4 charted in second place selling 33,146 units.
