PS3 to get Games-On-Demand portal?

Having already demonstrated its digital ambitions by releasing PSPgo, the world’s first ever digital-only console, could Sony be about to embark on another digital first in the console market?

Colin Sebastian of analysts Lazard Capital Market thinks that PSN will play a large part in Sony’s presentation, including a possible big announcement in the digital downloads market.

At E3, we expect Sony to focus on Move” and the product extensions available with the motion controllers,” he explains.

We also expect the company to provide more details on enhanced features and functionality of the online PlayStation Network, including complete game downloads, more robust social networking features, networked game-play and broader content offerings beyond games (e.g., online video).”

A selection of full-price PS3 titles are already available on PSN but, much like Microsoft’s service on Xbox Live, most title are available only at the full RRP and only arrive much after they hit the High Street.

Were Sony to offer release date parity and, perhaps more importantly, competitive pricing it could provide one of the most radical shake-ups seen in the home console market in recent times.
