11th outlet for ambitious Alworths

The fast-growing retail chain that sprang up following the collapse of Woolworths opens its 11th store next month.

Alworths, which sells games and DVDs plus homeware and more, celebrates the opening of its Llandudno, Wales shop on August 13th. The store will occupy the unit left vacant by the town’s former Woolworths.

Alworths plans to open five more stores across North and South Wales over the next

12 months – and is tipped to open more in the South East of England (including MCV’s hometown of Hertford).

Alworths MD Andy Latham said: We’re delighted to be launching our first store in Wales and we hope that the store in Llandudno will be well received by the community.

The Llandudno store will be our first coastal store – we will tailor the ranges accordingly. During peak summer months we intend to stock holiday essentials and a range of beach toys, too.”

The store opens just weeks after the first Scottish Alworths opened in Cupar and Forfar.

Alworths is run by former Woolworths bosses.

Latham told MCV earlier this year that he believes there is an opportunity to eventually have ‘100 to 200′ Alworths stores in market town locations.
