Amazon introduces trade-ins

Just days after it emerged that the North American arm of

Toys R Us is dipping its toes in the pre-owned waters

, Amazon.com has announced a new scheme that allows gamers to trade in their old titles.

The system works by proving a quote for any given title via the Amazon website. Users then print out a shipping label, pack up their games and send them to Amazon. Once a title’s condition has been verified the user’s account is credited with the agreed amount.

Current examples of prices offered for games include $29 for Sony’s LittleBigPlanet, $15 for LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and $35.50 for Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: City Folk

And for a limited time, those who trade in titles will be rewarded with 10 per cent off their next games purchase.

There’s no indication yet as to whether the trade-in scheme will be rolled out onto the UK Amazon store.
