Ape Escape swings onto PS3

The new PS3 Move-compatible Ape Escape will hit retail before the end of the year, Sony has announced.

An official Tweet by ApeClub, the franchise’s digital arm, said: Ape Escape’s PS3 release date is now Q2 – Q4 2010.”

The IP originally kicked off on the PlayStation in 1999 with Ape Escape, with two sequels appearing on PS2 in 2001 and 2005 respectively. A series of mini-game spin-offs were released for PSP including Ape Academy and Ape Escape Racing.

Ape Escape on PS3 was officially announced at the 2009 Tokyo Games Show. Sony has said the game will use PlayStation Move, suggesting its release is likely to fall in Q3 or Q4 towards the end of the year.

The last game in the series, Ape Quest, was released in May 2008 for PSP via digital download on PSN.
