BBC iPlayer coming to Xbox Live

Xbox 360 owners may be able to access digital TV service BBC iPlayer via Xbox Live as early as next week.

Eurogamer reports that iPlayer – which is already available on PSN and Wii – will arrive on Live after Microsoft and the BBC reached an agreement. It allows users to catch up on TV programmes and watch shows on demand.

A possible deal had previously broken down due to the fact that Xbox Live Gold is a paid-for service. iPlayer is free to use but is funded by the TV licence fee.

However, last year Microsoft announced BBC content would be heading to Xbox 360.

Reports suggest BBC iPlayer will be free for both Silver and Gold Xbox Live subscribers. It will join other Xbox entertainment apps such as 4oD, Channel 5 and YouTube.

Microsoft said it "does not comment on rumour and speculation".
