Today, the BBC is challenging teenagers to get creative online with the Gold Rush Game Maker, which allows users to create their own gold rush adventure games, based on the upcoming three part series Operation Gold Rush with Dan Snow on BBC 2.
Similar to BBC’s award winning Doctor Who Game Maker, this will allow users to create and publish adventure games featuring the real-life adventurers from the forthcoming series about the 19th century Gold Rush in the U.S.
BBC claim the game maker is "easy-to-use" and "requires no technical skills", meaning it’s a perfect opportunity for those that want to make games, but lack the technical knowledge to get involved and have a crack using the drag and drop system to finish their game before publishing it on BBC’s new platform, Mixital.
In an emailed press release, Chris Granlund, Executive Producer for BBC Studios, said: “We’re always looking for new ways to introduce the next generation to the amazing stories of the past. We know our younger audiences are enthusiastic game players. This seemed a great opportunity to introduce them to a fascinating period of 19th century history through their passion for games.”
Alongside this game maker, the BBC will be offering resources that’ll enable the audience to learn more about the wide range of opportunities and careers available within the UK’s growing games industry, so it’ll have uses for everyone.
