20 female employees already in management positions as Japanese publisher strives to differentiate its teams

Capcom actively promoting female staff to diversify

Capcom is promoting executive positions of female staff as part of its objective to instil “the importance of diversity”, the company has said in its latest financial statement.

The Japanese publisher said it is actively utilising female workers and making evaluations “according to performance and not based on gender, age and such”.

“As part of such efforts, we are promoting executive positions of female employees, and so far we have two female corporate officers and 20 female employees in management positions such as general managers and senior managers,” Capcom said.

The importance of diversity in games is becoming more pronounced. Earlier this year, Nintendo’s project leader Aya Kyogoku said Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s success was down to the diversity team that created it.

Capcom also revealed in its financial statement that both its revenues and profits were up, thanks to the success of Monster Hunter 4, as well as titles such as Dead Rising 3, Resident Evil Revelations and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen both hit sales targets.

Net sales were 65,824 million yen, up 3.4 per cent from the previous fiscal year.
