International game design competition begins search for BAFTA finalists

Dare to be Digital calls for new talent

The organisers of the Dare to be Digital game design competition are now accepting submissions, and are encouraging UK universities to enter teams.

The contest ultimately provides the sole nominees for the GAME British Academy Video Game Awards’ Ones to Watch category. Teams of five that are successfully selected will be judged and supported by industry experts as they spend ten weeks with the Abertay University in Dundee working on games that will compete for BAFTA recognition.

“Being finally selected to take part in Dare to be Digital is a fabulous opportunity and many of our past competitors have gone on to achieve great things in industry or even publish their game,” said Elaine Russell, Dare to be Digital’s project manager.

“Even if you don’t have a team you should visit the Dare website to find out how you can be put in touch with other potential entrants and form a team entry. Some of the most successful teams are ones where the members have found each other for the first time to enter the event.”

Undergraduates from across the arts and science disciplines are invited to take part, as are members of the public, who can find out more about the regional selection events at the competition’s website.
