Deals that shook the industry 1/10

Infogrames must still be kicking itself for this one. The French publisher let DMA go due to a complication with former GTA publisher BMG – and Take Two’s recently-formed Rockstar label was ready to pounce.

The firm got in just in time to release Grand Theft Auto II, a well-received top-down crime caper on PlayStation 2.

However, two years later, the combined might of Rockstar and DMA truly came together – when the 3D Grand Theft Auto III changed the way we think about gaming forever more, and made oodles and oodles of cash for its new sugar daddy.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?

As if we need to tell you. GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV became some of the most successful entertainment products of all time. Oh, and cash-happy EA CEO John Riccitiello started sniffing round the Rockstar offices…
