Virtual currency on Mobage platform brings in $700m in Japan

DeNa rakes in $600m in revenue during record quarter

Mobile gaming giant DeNa has reported a record financial quarter by accruing $627 million in revenue.

Quaterly revenue was 45 per cent higher than in the same period last year, and operating profits also rose 38 per cent to $254 million.

The company’s moba-coin virtual currency proved a huge success on its mobile social platform Mobage, bringing in $700 million from its domestic network in Japan.

Virtual Currency use also grew outside of Japan by nearly $30 million.

DeNa also reported that as of November 5th, its Mobage West branch was making $1 in average revenue per daily active user on titles such as Blood Brothers and Ninja Royale.

“In our second quarter we continued to see steady growth internationally, as well as in Japan,” said DeNa CEO Isao Moriyasu.

“In order to build the world’s top social games platform, we must stay focused on expanding our audience and delighting our customers with exciting games that will keep them engaged.”
