For any readers who might not know you, tell us a little more about your company and its goals.
More than 10,500 companies, including major games studios like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Sony Online Entertainment and Nintendo trust Perforce version management solutions to help them deliver cutting-edge mobile, console, PC, and MMORPG games.
In an industry where time-to-market is crucial to success, game developers love Perforce for seamlessly managing the parallel development of source code, 3D art, audio, documents, and large binaries distributed across multi-site teams. Artists can easily add assets to Perforce version control using P4GT, a Perforce plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk’s Softimage, 3ds Max, and Maya.
What differentiates you from similar outfits? What’s unique about you?
Many of our gaming customers depend on being able to version everything — including code, config files, and large binaries like 3D models, video, audio, and designs – in a single repository. The ability to scale for any size of asset, project or team differentiates Perforce, enabling all contributors to collaborate with every change tracked. Perforce has always been keen to support startups and small businesses so you can get all Perforce products for free for up to 20 users or 20 workspaces. What excites and/or encourages you about the games industry and games development today?
Besides the incredible capabilities of modern gaming platforms there is an amazing amount of innovation coming from small startups not just the big triple-A studios. Any one of them could be the next Zynga or Rovio.
Looking at the Develop Awards finalists, what does it say to you about the industry and development today?
It’s great to see such a variety of entrants this year and such a range of organization sizes. There’s plenty of new names on the list which is encouraging. We’re also really pleased to see around half of them use Perforce!
Do you have a message for the finalists?
Good luck to them all! The amount of effort to get to this point should never be underestimated and this is a great chance to get some recognition and celebrate your success.
Anything else you’d like to add about your company and the Develop Awards?
Besides recognising success, this is also a great opportunity for startups or those thinking of creating something new to be inspired. That’s why Perforce is running a competition for two lucky small companies to be our guests at the Develop Awards Dinner – more details at http://develop2020.splashthat.com/
