Finnish developer Supercell has picked up the accolades for top New IP and Independent Studio at the Develop Industry Excellence Awards 2013.
The firm won the New IP prize for its hit iOS title Clash of Clans, and beat a strong list of nominees including Dishonored (Arkane Studios), Hotline Miami (Dennaton Games), The Room (Fireproof Games), Thomas Was Alone (Mike Bithell), Warface (Crytek), Surgeon Simulator (Bossa Studios) and Clay Jamm (Fat Pebble).
Free-to-play strategy game Clash of Clans has been a huge success for the young studio, helping to generate in excess of $2.4 million a day alongside the company’s other game, Hay Day.
Supercell also picked up the top accolade for Independent Studio, coming out on top in a category that included CCP, Crytek, Dlala, Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Sumo Digital, Supercell and Yippee Entertainment.
Given its huge impact on the game industry over the last year, and its push into new territories around the world, Supercell will no doubt be back in contention for more awards next year.
