J.K. Rowling to pen first title for augmented reality books

E3 2012: Sony enlists J.K. Rowling for Wonderbook launch

Sony has revealed the latest in augmented reality entertainment, Wonderbook.

Combining a physical book with Playstation Move technology, Wonderbook will provide an experience that is "more than reading".

The first title for the new tech will come from the pen of J.K. Rowling, the illustrious author behind the Harry Potter series.

"The Book of Spells" will take readers on a magical journey through an enchanted book to learn the secrets of spell casting, and the life lessons necessary to becoming a true wizard.

The Playstation Move controler acts as a wand, and a camera transmits the player’s image back to the console, placing the reader in the pages of the book on screen.

"Wonderbook and Book of Spells demonstrates what is possible on the Playstation platform," said Rowling.

Andy House, head of Sony Entertainment Europe, said more titles were in development by Moonbot Studios, already famed for iPad interactive book, "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore".
