Sunset Overdrive and Ratchet & Clank studio confirms that web-slinging title will not be based on upcoming movie

E3 2016: Surprise! Insomniac, not Sucker Punch, is making the new Spider-Man game

There’s a new Spider-Man game on the way, but the developer making it might surprise you.

After months of rumours that InFamous outlet Sucker Punch would be helming a open-world take on Marvel’s web-slinging superhero, it turns out that it will actually be Insomniac developing the self-titled instalment.

While it makes sense to bring Peter Parker (spoilers) and his arachnid alter-ego back to the world of games ahead of the upcoming cinematic reboot of the universe, the Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive and Resistance studio revealed that the PS4 exclusive will not be based on the film.

“Spider-Man is one of the most iconic and well-known characters in the world, and we’re thrilled to be given the responsibility to create a brand-new, authentic Spider-Man story,” said community manager Bryan Intihar.

“Having released Ratchet & Clank, we feel confident in our ability to create a showpiece for the console. And we’re downright giddy bringing Spidey’s acrobatic abilities, improvisation, and web-slinging to life.”
