EA has made a surprise announcement of Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, the third game in its third-person co-op shooter franchise.
Development of the franchise now changes hands from EA Montreal to Dead Space creator Visceral Games, and the new game will be developed using DICE’s famed Frostbite 2 engine.
The Devil’s Cartel is a series refresh, with EA claiming the game to bear a more intense, mature and grittier tone”.
The game will be set in Mexico, where players take on the roles of Alpha and Bravo, who are dropped into the middle of a drug war conflict for an assignment full of corruption and deceit”. The Devil’s Cartel will make use of the Frostbite 2 engine’s environmental destruction.
The game promises seamless co-op gameplay and explosive new tag-team features”, featuring both online and split-screen co-op along with an advanced upgrade and customisation system.
Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel is scheduled for release in March 2013 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
