Electronic Arts took home the grand prize at the MCV and Xbox 360 Industry Pub Quiz last night – in its first stab at the competition.
EA beat former champs such as Konami and EUK on the night, which once again took place at London’s AKA Bar in Holborn.
However EA was run a close second by Sainsbury’s, with GAME following up in third and 505 Games lodging a respectable fourth spot.
Each member of the champs’ team took home an Xbox 360 Elite with a 12-month subscription to Live and a bundle of Microsoft Points, courtesy of gold sponsor Microsoft.
Co-hosts Microsoft ended the night in fifth position, followed by (in order) HMV, Vivendi, Amazon.co.uk, The Sun, Koch and Woolworths.
A whopping 21 teams crammed in for the night – a new record level of attendance.
Another debutant, Marks & Spencer, fielded two teams, but may want to forget their showing come the finale – as both finished near the bottom of the table.
Whispers of ‘exacting sweet revenge’ at the next quiz, on Wednesday, May 28th, could be heard as the M&S team headed for the door.
As always, round sponsors offered top ‘Spot Prizes’ throughout the night.
Highlights included The Sun newspaper taking home Blu-Ray copies of Warner’s 300 and Warner themselves winning limited edition Zelda Phantom Hourglass DS Lites from Nintendo.
Elsewhere, Vivendi picked up copies of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed and Imagine Publishing pocketed copies of 505 Games’ Cooking Mama 2 – looking wonderful in matching aprons.
Other generous round sponsors included Koch, which offered 50 iTunes vouchers, and Vivendi, which provided a goody bag featuring copies of new movie adaptation Spiderwick.
In addition, Capcom offered limited editions of Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet, whilst EA gave away copies of FIFA Street 3 and Burnout Paradise.
