Frank Gibeau reveals the publisher has an app in production that will exchange data between home and mobile platforms

EA working on ‘high-end’ Battlefield mobile game

EA’s Frank Gibeau has announced the company is working on a ‘high-end’ Battlefield mobile game.

In an interview with the New York Times, Gibeau revealed that EA is already developing a mobile title that aims to operate with franchise games (such as Battlefield 4) on other systems – similar to Battlefield 4’s Commander Mode on tablets.

"We are working on a mobile game of Battlefield that will be high-end and high performance," Gibeau said.

"It’s our bet that we can successfully pull that off. But we’re embarking on something no one has ever done before — to get these games to inter-operate between platforms.”

Gibeau acknowledged the risk of the endeavor, specifically pointing out the difficulty of getting the experience to translate from PC and consoles to mobile devices.

“Will it work? It already has in some cases. Will it work for all franchises? Not all franchises will make the transition. Battlefield might be a little harder."

EA has declined to comment further on the project at the present time, so it’s unclear when the game will arrive or which mobile platform(s) it will launch for.
