Two new reseller deals are in place that will see facial animation outfit Faceware significantly increase it’s footprint in Asia.
In particular, the deals with Crescent, the exclusive distributor of Vicon Motion Capture Systems to the Japanese market, and Beijing Ou-Lei Technology, a prominent supplier of entertainment equipment and solutions in China, will increase Faceware’s presence in those two countries.
“We have been selling directly to those markets for a few years, but given the increasing demand and the time differences, it made more sense to partner with companies that know the market and offer complementary technologies to ours,” said Peter Busch, vice president of business development at Faceware Technologies. “In Crescent and Beijing Ou-Lei Technology, we’ve found two strong partners with deep ties to their countries’ entertainment markets."
“Crescent is the exclusive distributor of the world-leading Vicon Motion Capture Systems to the entertainment market," continued Hajime Kotani, founder of Crescent. "Faceware’s technology not only offers high-quality, markerless facial motion capture; its ability to work seamlessly with Vicon’s systems allows us to offer animation studios a far more complete solution for performance capture.”
“Marker-based facial motion capture systems are not accurate and very difficult to use. That is the primary reason we decided to work with Faceware Technologies," added Lei Xi, vice president at Beijing Ou-Lei Technology.
Faceware spun out of facial motion service provider Image Metrics early this year, and continues to offer both software and hardware for the game, film and television industries, boasting particular strength in retargeting and analysis technology. Faceware’s software is designed to handle every stage from beginning to end of the facial capture and production process.
Faceware’s move on Asia comes from increased demand from the region, which the company suggests is in part due to giants including Disney and Dreamworks partnering with initiatives and companies in the area with a view to establish an increased presence in Japan and China.
