Defunct developer Factor 5 was one work on two Star Wars games that sadly never made it to shelves.
One was a Star Wars: Rogue Squadron trilogy, combining the three well-received titles released on Nintendo 64 and GameCube, for multiple platforms. The compilation would have see all three games remastered for the original Xbox, and was half finished when LucasArts pulled the plug, according to IGN.
Following an exclusivity period with Sony around the PS3 launch, the studio revived this project for Wii and planned to take advantage of the MotionPlus controls.
The studio also began work on a potential launch title for Xbox 360, an online multiplayer game entitled Rogue Squadron: X-Wing vs TIE Fighter.
Speaking on IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, the former studio’s president Juilan Eggebrecht said" "The big thing for the Xbox would have been – if we’d had it up and running – multiplayer. [The game] was much more about groups, because it’s always Rogue Squadron, right?
"So you would be Red 5, together with the Reds essentially attacking, and there would be the Imperial side. And that would be the two factions duking it our in essentially the movie battles, and then in additional battles."
However LucasArts, concerned about creating a launch game, canned the project.
Very shortly after, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida reached out to Factor 5 with the chance to make a launch title for PS3. While Eggebrecht proposed Rogue Squadron: X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Sony preferred the idea of a first-party new title – a project that eventually became the ill-fated Lair.
Factor 5 closed back in 2009.
