Forza 5 will not require net connection on first play… but will to complete the game

Xbox One owners will not need to be connected to the internet to get Forza 5 working upon its initial install.

Earlier this month it was reported that the game would need a one-time net connection before it would work. This is now apparently not the case.

That’s not to say that the game will be completely free of any online requirements, however. IGN reports that players won’t be able to finish the single player Career mode without getting online at least once.

"In the beginning of the game, the player will be racing against Drivatars that are contained on the disc and were trained by the [Turn 10 development] team," Turn 10’s Dan Greenawalt stated.

"The player won’t be blocked from playing the game [if they’ve never connected it to Xbox Live]. But deeper areas in the career mode were designed to utilise these additional cars and tracks.

"While playing, the player will be asked to connect to Live in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents – it’s not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings.

Connecting will also download new content – but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc.”
