Kamiya wants Scalebound to show off Xbox One’s potential

The co-founder of Platinum Games has said that one of his key aspirations for Scalebound is for it to increase the overall appeal of Xbox One.

To achieve this, Hideki Kamiya has told Metro that he believes the title will really show off the potential of Microsoft’s machine.

One thing with every project that at least I have been working on, throughout my entire career, is that I would like to earn the trust of not just the players but also our partners, such as publishers,” he said.

And when I have built and earned that trust there’s mutual, hopefully, respect and trust that I need to deliver what is expected of me. So in terms of, say, Scalebound, which is an exclusive title for Xbox One, my ultimate goal and mission is that this will help appeal to, and also heighten the value, of not just my game but also the console, and show the power of what Xbox One can do.”

Kamiya also touched upon Platinum’s perceived niche appeal, laughing at a joke that it’s a joy every day when he realises that Platinum is still alive and kicking.

Platinum games may not have always been the most commercially successful titles in terms of the number of sales,” he conceded. But there’s something that I know that our players have appreciated, the commitment and the quality and what we deliver in the final product is something that I hope speaks for itself.”

The enigmatic developer also touched upon the belief that he left former employer Capcom on acrimonious terms, and even said he would welcome the chance to work with the publisher again in the future.

There are people that think I was let go or fired from the team or from the staff at Capcom, but that is not what happened,” he insisted. It was just time for me to work with my partners and friends and colleagues, who I wanted to work with, and start a new venture and create new opportunities for ourselves. So I left of my own will and my own desire.

I actually felt a little bad for leaving. Because Capcom tried to stop me leaving and joining my other partners at Platinum. So there’s a sense that if there’s ever a chance that we can not only work together but help bring new life into maybe a Capcom title, or work on a Capcom partnership, then, again, I would very much welcome the opportunity.”
