Konami has shipped 6m units of Metal Gear Solid V

Japanese publisher Konami has revealed it has sold in six million copies of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain to retail.

This figure only represents the number of units bought in by stores, and does not mean that Metal Gear Solid V has sold six million units. This figure includes digital downloads.

The above was announced as part of Konami’s financial report for the third quarter – the three months ending December 2015.

The firm’s digital entertainment (games) business saw growth year-on-year, generating revenue of 93.4bn for the financial year to date.

This is a 37.5 per cent rise on the 67.9bn generated in same period last year. Meanwhile, Digital Entertainment drew in a profit of 25.5bn for the fiscal year so far.

Video games generate by far the most revenue – the company’s Health and Fitness divisions comes closest, generating 53.6bn during the financial year to date.

Meanwhile, the pachislot and pachinko machine sector that Konami is moving further into was not quite so profitable. For the nine months ending December 31st 2015, this sector brought in 8.2bn, an 18.3 per cent year-on-year.

In total, for the fiscal year to date, Konami saw revenue of 179.3bn – a 15 per cent increase year-on-year.

Konami has also opted to increase its financial guidance for the full fiscal year, which ends this March.

The firm initially predicted total revenue of 228bn, but now forecasts revenue of 243bn.
