Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain announced for PS3, Xbox 360

Hideo Kojima revealed at his GDC presentation earlier today that The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are the same game – Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Kojima arrived at his GDC presentation with his face bandaged up, revealing what we already knew – that The Phantom Pain was indeed a Metal Gear Solid game and that Scandinavian game developer Joakim Mogren wasn’t a real person.

A press release from Konami gives more details on MGS5 – "First unveiled in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the new Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain trailer shows the fall of Mother Base and provides visual hints that unveil the connection between Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain."

A new trailer was also revealed at the presentation, showing the iconic Snake slip into a coma and then wake up nine years later. The trailer boasts high production values as you would expect, but while it appeared to be CG, it was later revealed to be running real-time on Kojima Productions’ new proprietaryFOX Engine.

The end of the trailer revealed only the Xbox 360 and PS3 as supported platforms even though the FOX Engine is designed for next-gen and the trailer itself was running on PC.

The trailer is sure to give fans tons of material to dissect and speculate on until Kojima decides to reveal more. Check out the trailer here.
