Kojima’s claim that he did not design Metal Gear Solid V’s Quiet to be erotic has been tested once again.
The designer has this morning made a point of highlighting a sexually suggestive feature of an upcoming Play Arts figurine based on the character.
Play Arts is known for its posable figures based on famous licenses. It now transpires that its take on Quiet features breasts that can be manipulated. Kojima’s tweet shows the developer pushing them together to exaggerate her cleavage.
PlayArtsKAI’s Quiet is coming soon,” Kojima said. Yoji, a supervisor says some soft materials enables to be pushed & lifted. Lol”
The Quiet statue has already been the subject of debate. An early snapshot of the figure lead to Kojima last year saying that: I’ve been ordering [fellow designer] Yoji to make the character more erotic, and he did it well. Recently I’ve been making characters this way. I create the setting thoroughly, how he/she spent early life, name, style, favourite phrase, fashion, action to stand the character out.
The initial target is to make u want to do cosplay or its figurine to sell well.”
He later backtracked on this statement, saying: "Maybe the phrase ‘erotic’ wasn’t really [the correct word for] what I was trying to say. What I’m really trying to do is create unique characters. One of those is, of course, Quiet. She’s a really unique character, I wanted to add that sexiness to her. It wasn’t really supposed to be erotic, but sexy.”
