Xbox executive Don Mattrick doesn’t believe Valve’s upcoming Steam Box hardware as competition in the console market.
Speaking with The Verge, Mattrick stated that while he both respected and loved Valve founder Gabe Newell, he doesn’t see the company as a competitor to Microsoft in terms of living room gaming.
"[Valve] is doing some innovative stuff … The scale of products and things that are being brought to market are probably a little bit richer when I look at Sony, Nintendo, Apple and Google," Mattrick said.
Newell himself recently said that he saw Apple as Steam’s toughest competition over next-gen consoles.
Newell yesterday revealed Valve’s plans to begin distributing Steam box prototypes to customers in the next 3-4 months.
