Pre-tax profits rise to £58 million as Minecraft continues to enjoy huge success

Mojang rakes in £150m in 2012

Minecraft developer Mojang Specifications amassed £150 million ($237k) in 2012.

As reported by IT24, the studio also made £58m ($91m) in pre-tax profits during last year.

More than £64m ($101m) came from licensing fees alone.

Throughout 2012, Minecraft sold 15 million copies across of the world-building title across PC, Mac, mobile and console.

The PC and Mac version sold four million copies, the Xbox 360 port sold five million, while Minecraft Pocket Edition sales garnered nearly six million downloads.

“Several things last year contributed to these very fine figures,” said Mojang CEO Carl Manneh, as translated by Google.

“We released Minecraft for the Xbox 360 and the Pocket Edition iOS took off. We had of course expected good numbers, but something like this can never even dream up.”

Manneh went on to state that Mojang would be looking into new markets throughout 2013, such as Brazil, as the studio looks to garner even more sales of its blockbuster title Minecraft and beyond.
