NPD: BioShock 2 top Feb charts

Following the trend set by video games hardware sales in the US last month, software sales suffered a 15 per cent year-on-year decline with the total February value hitting $624.4m.

Year-to-date software sales are down 14 per cent at $1.22bn.

However, if there is a champion to emerge from the numbers it’s 2K Games’ BioShock 2, with the Xbox 360 SKU topping the February software charts thanks to sales of 563k units. The PS3 version sold around 187k.

As well as the continued presence of Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the Top Ten at number three, what’s also notable is the strong performance of Ubisoft’s Wii exclusive Just Dance. The game has been a surprise hit in the UK this year and now looks to be mirroring that success across the pond.

The Top Ten list this month is quite balanced between the three console platforms with three each for the PS3 and Wii platforms, and four for the 360,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier stated.

BioShock 2 was the best-selling game in February, selling over 750K units at retail across platforms. The 360 version was the top-selling SKU for the month. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the third-best-selling game of all-time, now at just under 10m units life-to-date.”
