Planetside 2 PS4 beta misses 2014 target window, now scheduled for this month

Sony Online Entertainment has announced the Planetside 2 beta is now expected out by the middle of this month on PlayStation 4, confirming the early release will miss its previously scheduled 2014 target window.

GameSpot reports on the delay and newly-specified release target of mid-January 2015 for Planetside 2’s PS4 beta release, which will now arrive nearly two years after the beta’s original launch on PC.

SOE president John Smedley further revealed that the beta was approved in its first pass” for the hardware and will go live during either the week of January 13th or January 20th. An exact date will be settled on once the team returns to office on January 5th.

"As much as it sounds like we’re blowing smoke, we’re working hard to release a game that feels like a full-on console experience and not just like a port," creative director Matt Higby said. "So it’s taken us quite a long time to re-jigger our user interface and our controls. There’s a lot that needs to get done."
