Kim Swift, the DigiPen student who co-created Portal and subsequently quit Valve, has revealed her new project, a familiar-looking FPS puzzle game called Quantum Conundrum.
The new title, built with the team at Airtight Games, features what could be many ideas that Swift had for Portal 2 before she left Valve.
Quantum Conundrum is a first-person puzzle game that, like the Portal series, progresses as players place cubes on switches. But the obstacles and inherent logic appears more elaborate than what featured in the first and second Portal games.
Swift’s game allows players to transform the actual physics of the game world. As shown in a Gamespot video, even the heaviest objects can be given balloon-like weights and velocities. Puzzles are solved with the correct manipulation of these physics to, for example, smash a window with a temporarily weightless safe.
The game is due for release early 2012 on XBLA, PSN and PC. Valve is publishing the game on Steam, according to the Gamespot report.
