PS3 gets cloud storage

Sony has announced a brand new perk for members of its exclusive PlayStation Plus service – cloud storage for game saves.

As of today, 150MB of storage will be available " for peace of mind and easy access from any PlayStation 3 system in the world".

The key advantages are that it protects data from machine failure or theft and also allows users to access the information form anywhere with an internet connection.

Cloud saving will be accessible from the XMB’s Saved Data Utility Menu and comes in the 3.60 software update. To back up data users need only to select the file, hit triangle, select ‘copy’ and choose ‘Online Storage’.

Data that comes with developer-implemented copy protection can still be backed up but will not be accessible on other PS3 units for 24 hours after saving.

If a user should choose to cancel their PlayStation plus membership data will no longer be accessible, though will remain on servers for six months before it’s deleted.
