PS3 modders unbanning themselves

And so it continues. Last week Sony said it would permanently ban any consumer who has modified their console. Great idea.

The problem is, hackers have already found a way to bypass the measures.

Destructoid reports that a new hack for the machine allows users to manually unban themselves from PSN. Furthermore, it also permits to possible banning of another user’s console, providing the hacker had access to that machine’s serial ID.

This latest development lends credence to reports doing the rounds last week that the very security of PSN itself is under serious threat.

Ars Technica claimed to have evidence that any network-connected PS3 exchanges information with Sony upon boot-up, even if not logging into PSN. Furthermore, some of this information is said to be unencrypted, opening a back door for hackers to potentially infiltrate the network.
