PS4 downloads can be accessed from multiple consoles

PlayStation 4 owners will be able to access their digital downloads by logging into any console, Sony says.

Speaking at Develop in Brighton, Sony’s R&D senior team leader Neil Brown also spoke up the company’s ‘play as you download’ feature, which allows gamers to play their newly-acquired digital game and begin playing it before it’s even downloaded.

"You can visit someone’s house and log into your account and play any game that is in your digital library," he said. "But how useful is that if it takes half a day to download a game?

"With ‘play as you download’ you get quicker access to at least the first section of the game so that you can be playing quicker. This makes a digital library a practical option in the real world."

Parts of physical games will also be installed to the gamer’s console in order to improve read speeds, Brown adds.

"This is completely a background process. They don’t have to wait to install before playing the game. It will launch as soon as the disc is in the drive."
